From Chinatown to the Shrine of Remembrance, to the Queen Vic to the Sports complex, it is a good way of seeing Melbourne without being hampered by which bus, which tram.
So look out for the bright orange sign for the stops and take the ease out of navigating your way around a major city.

We have something similar to this in Sydney. We also have those cutaway red double deckers that can be found in many cities around the world. I have not taken the Sydney version but found the versions in London and Rome quite useful to orient me on day one.
I'll only get on if you promise they'll stop at a fun, delicious cafe' for coffee and treats along the tour route!

That is a wonderful idea. I think every major metropolitan city should have this! In Olympia we have a bus similar to this it is called the Dash and it runs every 15mins. She is free to ride. Though her stops are limited. To really see our state I would recommend an auto rental.
The tourists' bus in Melbourne looks neater than Sydney's :o)

Julie - I saw the free tourist shuttle advertised when I was in Sydney last month, but couldn't find it. We also have the double-decker buses - red, like the London ones. Have ridden in one of them around Katoomba and the Blue Mountains - great way to get around.
Leif - The bus stops at Lygon Street, aka "Little Italy" - plenty of pâtisseries - Tiramisù, Zabaglione, Zuppa Inglese...

Floral Friday - It would be good if all cities had them - good for tourism.
Ai Shiang - I haven't seen the Sydney ones, but ours are very comfortable and the drivers give a running commentary.
B Squared - They are indeed and it makes it so much easier for visitors and/or tourists.

Manchester has I think three free shuttle buses that tour around the city on different routes - even Stockport has one now - very handy and easy to use.
