La Guillotine électriques...?

Above: La Guillotine
This pylon does look a little like the (in)famous La Guillotine of the French Revolution only with a modern twist - powered by electricity!

Did you know
The guillotine was still in use in the 1930's! The last public guillotining was of Eugen Weidmann, who was convicted of six murders. He was beheaded on 17 June 1939, outside the prison Saint-Pierre rue Georges Clemenceau 5 at Versailles.

Today's quote: A person should go out on the water on a fine day to a small distance from a beautiful coast, if he would see Nature really smile. Mekong Sunset

This was taken after we'd docked at the slowboat landing and were trudging up the walkway to Luang Prabang.

Skywatch Friday

Above: Darkening shadows

Taken about 4.00PM facing west - suddenly the sky darkened as clouds appeared seemingly out of nowhere - it had been a brilliant blue most of the day.

Skywatch Friday - Under Sorrento Skies

Street with a view
This is the scene you see when standing on the roundabout at the intersection of Point Nepean Road and Ocean Beach Road facing the sea. If you were to walk down the hill and turn left at the Esplanade you would be at the Sorrento Queenscliff ferry wharf.

Skywatch Friday - Ships That Pass In The Night

Time to say goodbye
Down on the Mornington Peninsula, the ferry runs between Sorrento and Queenscliff across Port Phillip Bay connecting it (Sorrento) with the Bellarine (Peninsula). The trip takes around 40 minutes and is much faster than driving back to Melbourne, then heading west down the Princes Highway.

This photo was taken not long before sunset from the Portsea pier. In the first photo, the boat on the left is heading back to Sorrento and the one on the right is on its way to Queenscliff. As you can see in the second photo, they have passed each other. After taking these shots, I went back to my car and drove back to Sorrento to wait for the ferry to pull in where I took some more photos.

Skywatch Friday - At The Dawning Of The Day

At the Dawning of the Day

"Every Sunrise"
Every sunrise is a present, A gift from God above,
Gift-wrapped with scarlet ribbons, Tied with bows of love.

Each day's a new beginning, A time to start anew,
While all the stars are sleeping, The rose is fresh with dew.

Each day's a new creation, Too lovely to ignore,
We may find a blessing, Just outside our door.

We cannot keep the past, Like fireflies in a jar;
Nor journey to the future, By wishing on a star.

Every sunrise is a blessing, A gift for just today,
Rejoice my friend, Embrace it before it fades away!

Skywatch Friday - Sunrise

I shall lift mine eyes to the heavens
The dark shadows of night slowly creep
Their lengthening lines do fade
The clouds ring out with colour
As the dawn brings on its hue

Through pinks and blues
And rays that shimmer
In the early morn
The crispness of the air
The song of birds to welcome the new dawn.

Today's Quote: Whether I retire to bed early or late, I rise with the sun -
Thomas Jefferson.

Skywatch Friday - Sunrise Dawning

Sunrise Dawning

At the dawning of a new day
Bright orange fires the sky
Yesterday is past
And today is the new tomorrow

The tomorrows of today
Are with us as we watch
The tender rays
Unfold
And spread their light and shining glow
Upon the earth

See God's beauty
And His handiwork
Shining through
The birth of a new day.

Skywatch Friday - Lady Moon

0 Lady Moon, your horns point toward the east;
Shine, be increased:
0 Lady Moon, your horns point toward the west;
Wane, be at rest.

Sunset In My Neighbourd

Over the quarry

Some time ago I noticed a huge ball of flaming red and I realised if I went to the end of the street, turned right then left and left again at the end of the street I could see the sunset. There's a disused quarry in the foreground.

Red velvet sunset
Serenades earth and sky
An opera in red

Ribbons of color
Harmonize across sky

Skywatch Friday - Double Indemnity?

The sky in the pool

I rather liked this because the clouds are mirrored in the pool at Yering Station Winery.

We are at present experiencing a "cool change" and are in the middle of a dust storm - hopefully the internet won't drop out again.
Happy skywatching everyone.

Ghostly Gums - Skywatch Friday

Early one morning, just as the sun was rising
Outside my front door, facing north(ish) the wind was something fierce, it rocked me back and forth.
