Melbourne Central Clock

What's The Time Mister Wolf?
This gleaming, ginormous fob watch is in Melbourne Central, a large shopping complex in the CBD. Designed by Seiko, this masterpice of imagination enthralls many. Every hour, on the hour, people stop and stare in wonder to watch the marionette display which drops down from the bottom of the watch.

See Aussie birds and animals - galahs, cockatoos (cockies) a couple of minstrels and koalas moving around as the strains of Waltzing Matilda are heard. The whole show goes for around 3 or 4 minutes. And while the music plays, you hear the sounds of birds twittering away. You'd almost think you were in the Australian bush - the birdsong is so real.

Next time I'm in the city, I'll try to be here as the clock strikes and get a photo of the display.

Today's Quote: Tempus fugit (time flies)- Ovid.

Hi there
You wondered how it looks when canals freeze and I wonder how Melbourne looks. Nice pictures of what seems to be a nice town.

Great looking watch. I'd love to see the marionette display too.

How enchanting. I'd definitely be one of those who made certain to catch every moment of the show.

Very nicely captured, and interesting narrative. Looking forward to the pictures on the hour!

We did not go to this shopping mall, as an indoor mall would be the last place I would want to see when visiting a foreign city. We did like the row of clocks above the door at the main entrance to the Flinders Street Railroad Station, which you show on your masthead photo.

I was going to say I have a Seiko, but I don't - it's a Casio! :-)

Love this Seiko, though!

It's a nice watch. I wouldn't mind having one like this, but perhaps just a bit smaller!

I would go there just to see the clock!

Great composition! I like the 'cross' above the clock.

What about the ice rain? I saw it on tv and immediatly though of you as you are the only contact I have to Melbourne.

Bruno Beige - I think Melbourne is a nice place too.☺

Catarina - Thanks, glad you liked it.

Clueless in Boston - I'll definitely be taking photos of the display next time.

Brattcat - I've seen it many times and I still stand and watch from beginning to end.

Cezar and Léia - It's definitely worth "waiting" for.

Paul - The music is as good as the visuals.

Dave - Melbourne Central is more than just a shopping mall - it is where you arrive if you get off at Melbourne Central Train Station which is part of the Loop.

Jacob - It is a good looking one isn't it?

Steffe - It alos came with a four metre gold chain!

Lois - If you do come to Melbourne some day I don't think you'll be disappointed.

JM - Son and I were caught in the storm on Saturday - the road was flooded, son lost a sandal and we both looked like drowned rats!☺

Rob and Mandy - Rain came through one of the kitchen cupboards - wet phone, wet clock etc. Also rain on the stove, but other than that no damage.☺
