The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn. Following on from yesterday's post, the trees may be dead, but the ferns are growing back.

Ah, the will to live is so strong.
It is so marvelous to see life springing back after such a tragedy. When Mt. St. Helens, the volcano, blew up out here (1981) the scientists said it would be about forever before anything could or would return. But by the next year there were bits of green and then the animals did come back. It still looks like a wasteland in parts but amazing in other parts. Mb
It's a nice pic, but kinda sad.
They will come again, the leaf and the flower, to arise
From squalor of rottenness into the old splendour,
And magical scents to a wondering memory bring;
The same glory, to shine upon different eyes.
Earth cares for her own ruins, naught for ours.
Nothing is certain, only the certain spring.
-Laurence Binyon, "Burning of the Leaves"
Great detail! And I love the building in your new header.
Nice Header and tree photo. Gnarled and interesting. Quote perfect.
Nice pic, great quote.
It's been almost a year, but I still get a lump in my throat when I see images like this. It caused so much devastation. Good to see the green pushing its way through the black.
P.S. The link you left in your Melbourne Daily Photo signature when you visited my blog takes you to an inactive blog? It's missing the extra "daily" off the end to take it to your site. (Feel free to delete this comment once you've read it.)
