Hello, I created this blog because Melbourne is my city and I want people to see what a beautiful place it is. So come with me on a journey of discovery as we traverse the dining precincts, the culture, the laneways and hidden gems that make Melbourne marvellous.

The Leaning Tower of Glass

The Leaning Glass
Take a walk along Docklands, and in the grounds near Southern Cross Station is this leaning conglomerare of frosted glass and metal with etchings on each 'tier'. What it is nobody knows and try as I might I've not been able to find out from the Melbourne City Council - it isn't listed in their documents.

And so - I wonder about the artist who created it as I look at its smooth, clean lines.

It's a nice-looking piece; perhaps a lamp light upside down?

I meant to tell you previously how much I like your header photograph! It is simply superb!

I thought of an upside down light globe too. Or perhaps a ladies crinoline (upside-down of course). Thank you kndly for the compliment.☺

I really like it, does it have any light inside at night?

It is great to be here again. I love your blog.
That is an interesting glass. Hope someday I can visit Melbourne. I haven't been there yet.

Hi - I found the following details on this beautiful piece of art. I am loving your photos - it is making me aware of things I haven't seen in my own city.

Poise - Warren Langley (2005)
Telstra Dome concourse,
near Bendigo Bank Made from toughened safety glass and LED lighting within a steel frame, Poise is shimmering and crystalline by day and glowing blue by night. According to the artist, “It would appear that
every culture has within its mythology a sacred vessel. These vessels are variously perceived as receptacles of something precious, whether spiritual intent or otherwise. Here, the precarious
position of the vessel speaks of the delicate state of balance.”

Ha! I immediately thought that it might be a giant street lamp, come crashing down. But no, according to Davine, it is a modern-day sacred vessel. Full of light at night, so we can go shopping!

Funny how no one seems to know what it is. I hope the artist sees your blog and comes forward!

It does have an Art Deco look about it - «Louis» was surprised to read that it dates only from 2005. It is certainly more attractive than most of what passes for sculpture these days.
