The Red Telephone Box (Theme Day - Red)

Hold the line please
These red telephone boxes were everywhere when I was a child. Alas the government in its wisdom decided to get rid of them in the 70's and replace them with 'modern' glass and steel things. They never did have quite the same atmosphere. Imagine my delight when I spotted this one in Penang - I just had to take photos. The telephone box is outside the Penang Peranakan Mansion.

Today's Quote: I don't even know how to use a parking meter, let alone a phone box - Diana Princess Of Wales.

Classic! Love the pieces of frosted glass on it too. But Penang?? :)

A classic. When I visit my son who lives in Buenos Aires, I know I can count on seeing one of these next to a popular sidewalk cafe in the heart of Recoleta.

Wonderful. I like these old red boxes too. In Germany, they were yellow and now we have magenta boxes.

The phone box, the pillar and the double decker: the old trilogy. When they started to replace them in London, they sold them. A friend's father bought one for his garden! I love them and this shot is great, it's offset so nicely against the green.

Oh sweetie, my comment wasn't about your posting a photo from your travels (most of us do that). I was wondering about finding a red, very British, phone booth in Malaysia!

How sad that these have disappeared. I absolutely love them ... so ironically British. Glad you found one to bring back good memories.

Of course you just HAD to take a picture of this phone box. I love 'em too.

I forgot all about theme day. Silly me!

Happy Fall. MB

I remember using them. They make a good picture. Hope your computer problems are fixed soon. So frustrating.

Perfect choice for theme day.

I chose a picture I took 55 years ago of my Patty wearing a red dress. On April Fool's Day, April 1, 1955.

I gave her a diamond engagement ring, and today, April 1, 2010 is my entry for theme day on my Brookville Daily Photo blog.

I saw my first red call box on Dr. Who. Those telephone boxes are still dear to me too.

I like these, too, and think it was a loss when they went bye-bye. Funny thing is if you visit Disney's Epcot Center in Florida, you will see a number of them at both the Canadian and British pavilions!

Funny quote from Diana.

I never knew those red telephone boxes were in commune use in Australia. You learn something every day. And of course a perfect choice for today.

Yes, these booths are far classier than the modern glass and metal. Great find!

Today as I was bicycling I actually saw a pay phone in Vancouver - a rare sight these days. But it wasn't as cool as this! Great theme day post!

Glad this one has survived! And what a great contrast to the green wall! Wonderful find in Penang.
