Waltzing Australia

Queen's Birthday

Today is the Queen's Birthday in Australia, (except in Western Australia where it is celebrated at the end of September/beginning of October) or rather the public holiday for it is. On an English website I read her actual birthday is in April, but the weather is better in June! Because in the Northern Hemisphere the season is summer. Forget about Australia - down here it's winter and cold. Anyway, being a public holiday and being a Monday, means a long weekend. (You know three days off)

I tried to come up with something that would tie in with this, something to do with queens and came up with the following -

Queen Victoria Market
(Well, it was named after a queen)

A Crown
All queens need a crown.

Postage stamps and More

If you are a Queen, you get to have your face on a postage stamp. And money. Not bad eh?

I do think Queen Victoria had one of the most recognisable faces in the world, don't you? She always looked like she was smelling something nasty!

Great post - very funny! Queen Victoria reminds me of one of my elementary school teachers!

I find it crazy how holidays are so often celebrated on a "convenient" day instead of the actual day.

Perth Daily Photo - Good pun (right royal collection). We have Cup Day in November which alas falls on a Tuesday, pity it wasn't a Monday!

Lowell - your teacher obviously made an impression on you. And yes, re moving dates, Australia Day is Jan 26, but the holiday is always on a Monday. (Long weekend)

I think that all holidays should be on Mondays.

Poor Queen Victoria .... a wonder did she ever smile. At least we have the vibrant Queen Victoria Markets to remember her by.

Chuckling here! Love how you slipped in the sign for Melbourne's Crown Casino! Walked past there last weekend on my way to the Mind Body Spirit Festival! A great collection of royal symbols!

That makes four different dates I know of EG. Britain celebrate it on a Saturday in June.

Dianne yes. She has quite a few things named after her. You have Victoria Square with a large statue in the middle.

Gemma, I wondered if someone would recognise the casino. The entrance light there is fabulous.
